The Rājayoga defined
We continue the examination of rājayoga and other combinations given in the nāḍi literature, chiefly Chandrakalā nāḍi with the present focus on śloka 126-127, Part-II[1].

Conditions for Maṇi Pravāla Yoga as stated: -
Rule 1: A benefic planet (natural) should be exalted in the 2nd house while a natural malefic planet is simultaneously debilitated elsewhere
Rule 2: A benefic planet (natural) should be exalted in the 3rd house while a natural malefic planet is simultaneously debilitated elsewhere
Elsewhere maybe interpreted as ① in any other house except the one where the natural benefic is exalted i.e. 2nd house' or ② in any house not having argalā on the exalted benefic in second house. The latter interpretation is more valid as it covers the option where the malefic can obstruct or destroy the śrīmanta yoga indications.
Rule 3: Benefic planet exalted in 4th or 5th house
Natural benefic planets exalted in 4th house give rājayoga from childhood, especially Moon and Venus having digbala in 4th house as well. Jupiter in 4th house having the aspect of Moon is a rājayoga by itself.
The 5th house is more delicate and a debilitated planet can cause serious suffering. Benefic planets exalted in 5th house give vision and clear directions. Such a native plans well, executes plans in a practical manner and succeeds in all activities associated with the benefic exalted in 5th house.
Rule 4: Malefic planet exalted in 8th house with a benefic planet placed in 9th house
A malefic planet exalted in 8th house destroys debts and nīja doṣa (sins of past incarnations) provided there is a benefic in the 9th house giving the indications related to dharma and process of burning past sins and proceeding in right path. Else a malefic alone in exaltation in 8th house can cause many troubles in personal life.
Corollaries - Rājabhaṇga
Rule 5: A malefic planet (natural) should be debilitated in the 2nd house while a natural benefic planet is simultaneously exalted elsewhere
Rule 6: A benefic planet (natural) should be debilitated in the 2nd house while a natural malefic planet is simultaneously exalted elsewhere
Rule 7: A benefic planet (natural) should be debilitated in the 3rd house while a natural malefic planet is simultaneously exalted elsewhere
Rule 8: Benefic planet debilitated in 4th or 5th house
Rule 9: Benefic planet debilitated in 8th house with a malefic planet placed in 9th house - Asura (demon) yoga
Based on the above clearly stated dicta in the śloka, the following rules of rājayoga can also be derived.
Corollaries - Rājayoga
Rule 10: A malefic planet (natural) should be debilitated in the 3rd house while a natural benefic planet is simultaneously exalted elsewhere
Rule 11: Malefic planet debilitated in 4th house

Maṇi Pravāla Yoga is a śrīmanta yoga that leads to rājayoga as well bringing fortunes, wealth, plenty of all good things, especially from the houses it indicates as rājayoga giving by the blessings of Śrī (Lakṣmī). The houses give their peculiar indications -
- 2nd house shows one feeding many people by doing the work of Viṣṇu. The rājayoga is through financial enterprise or family being elevated to royal status. The native accumulates great wealth of things ruled by the second lord, which is the source to his wealth.
- 3rd house is for communications, writing, books, arts and culture. It also brings rājayoga through siblings, especially powerful brothers if the 3rd lord is also in the 5th house.
- 4th house deals with properties, home and nation and shows one who heart leads the way to well being, prosperity and rājayoga. Spiritual rājayoga also involved the 4th house and its lord. Formal education, social activities and comforts like hotels, eating places bring wealth.
- 5th house deals with knowledge and the rājayoga comes due to knowledge and learning. Planets in the 5th house show the areas while Jupiter gives great wisdom and all round learning.
- The rājayoga associate with the 8th house deals with inheritance like a prince becoming a king and for this the 9th house of good fortune must favour simultaneously.
Summing up, Maṇi Pravāla yoga is like a tender shoot waiting to grow into a huge tree like the Pārijāta (wish fulfilling tree). Pravāla also refers to the red coral and planet Mars showing rājayoga through one's own abilities, enterprise (parākrama) or perhaps merits that bring great inheritance as Mars also owns the natural 8th house Scorpio.
Maṇi Pravāla Yoga in 2nd House

Venus, a natural benefic planet is exalted in the 2nd house and is conjoined the 7th lord Sun. Rāhu and Ketu, natural malefic planets are debilitated in the 5th and 11th houses. Since Venus is furnishing the rājayoga, it indicates movies and art. Zmed started as a TV actor in 1978 with "Starsky and Hutch" and has acted in about 41 movies besides 16 own productions. The rājayoga started to function from the natural age of maturity of Venus (25-26 years) and has continued through life. Since 7th lord Sun is also involved it brings considerable emotional support to the entire work through relationships and spouse.

Natural benefic Jupiter is exalted in second house and is alone forming siṁhāsana yoga independently as the 10th lord in 2nd house. Natural malefic Sun is debilitated in fifth house in Libra completing the basic requirement for the Maṇi Pravāla Yoga.
However, it is a well known dictum that the Sun is the initiator of rājayoga and the Moon is the sustainer of rājayoga. The debility of the Sun is a dampener as it will always make him short of the final mark - in simple words, he cannot be the best, but can be runners-up or second best. In spite of his abilities, skills and knowledge of golf, that an exalted Jupiter shall give, he missed the top spot most of the time.
Thomas Daniel Weiskopf turned professional golfer in 1964 (22 years). His first win on the PGA Tour came at the Andy-Williams-San Diego Open in 1968 (26 years), and fifteen more followed by 1982 (40 years). His career season was 1973 when he was in his 32nd year, maturity of Jupiter, the giver of the Maṇi Pravāla Yoga, when he won seven tournaments around the world, including British Open at Royal Troon, and he would finish that year ranked second in the world. Even in that best year of his career given by the Maṇi Pravāla Yoga, he ranked second and could not get the top slot as the debilitated Sun would not allow it.
The power of the exalted Jupiter gives him brains that none of the golfers can match and he has put that into good use and has established a golf course design practice, with at least forty courses to his credit in many parts of the world, including Loch Lomond, the current venue of the Scottish Open. Many of the courses have received considerable praise. He has also worked as a golf analyst for CBS Sports, covering the 1981 and 1985 to 1995 Masters.
Perhaps Tom has made a bigger mark for himself in designing the golf courses than in the game itself as Jupiter is the giver of rājayoga instead of Mercury.
Maṇi Pravāla Yoga in 3rd House
Kathy Whitworth born September 27, 1939 in Monahans, Texas at 3 am.
Chart 3: Kathy Whitworth

Mercury is exalted in the 3rd house with the Sun and is also the lord of ārūḍha lagna in ārūḍha. Saturn is debilitated in the 10th house with Ketu forming pitṛs yoga, which is also in the 8th house from ārūḍha. The Maṇi Pravāla Yoga formed in the third house benefits the ārūḍha and Mercury brings success in green golf courses from a very young age. Whitworth began playing golf at age of 15 and won the 1957 and 1958 New Mexico State Amateur Championship in her 18th and 19th years becoming a professional player and joining the LPGA in December 1958.
Utpanna Vimśottari daśā applies in this chart. If one uses the regular vimśottari daśā from the Moon, we would be looking for ways to explain why Saturn gave rājayoga. Utpanna vimśottari shows the daśā of the lagneśa Moon from 1955-65, the period of her rapid success. In 1962 Moon daśā Mercury antardaśā she won her first tournament, the Kelly Girl Open.
The daśā of Mars brings the complete power of the Maṇi Pravāla Yoga as this yoga is also in the 3rd house (Mars significator). Exalted yogakāraka Mars in the 7th house demolishes the challengers and she was LPGA Player of the Year seven times during the entire Mars daśā between 1966 and 1973, won the Vare Trophy for best scoring average by an LPGA Tour Player a record seven times between 1965 and 1972 which exactly coincides with her Mars Utpanna vimśottari daśā. This earned her a place in the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1975 in Rāhu daśā Jupiter antardaśā.
Kathy Whitworth is a professional golfer having won 88 LPGA Tour tournaments, more than anyone else has won on either the LPGA Tour or the PGA Tour. In 1981 she became the first woman to reach career earnings of $1 million on the LPGA Tour.
This Maṇi Pravāla Yoga is no ordinary rājayoga. It gives blessings like the proverbial syamantaka maṇi of Lord Kṛṣṇa.
Maṇi Pravāla Yoga in 4th House
Tuesday Weld, born August 27, 1943 in New York City at 1.34' am
Chart 4: Tuesday Weld
Mercury exalted in the 4th house, alone has caused the Maṇi Pravāla Yoga which is also Bhadra Mahāpuruṣa Yoga. Since this Mercury is alone, it functions through Mother, else any other planet conjoining would have shown blessings of the rājayoga. She was born Susan Ker Weld and her father died shortly before her 4th birthday. Bhāgya pada A9 is in Sagittarius with Jupiter exalted in Cancer under guru-caṇḍāla yoga.
Financial difficulty following the death forced her to take up acting career at a tiny age. In her words, "My father’s family came from Tuxedo Park, and they offered to take us kids and pay for our education, on the condition that Mama never see us again. Mama was an orphan who had come here from London, but so far as my father’s family was concerned, she was strictly from the gutter. I have to give Mama credit - she refused to give us up. So I became the supporter of the family, and I had to take my father’s place in many, many ways."
Her acting debut on television was at age 12 and her feature film debut in a bit role in the 1956 Alfred Hitchcock crime drama, 'The Wrong Man'. By then the work pressure had already led her nervous breakdown at 9 years and alcoholism at 12 years. It is noteworthy that the exalted Mercury in Bhadra mahāpuruṣa yoga is also in maraṇa kāraka sthāna in the 4th house. Such a rājayoga comes with its baggage of suffering and tears. In 1956 (13th year) she played the lead role in 'Rock, Rock, Rock' and has not looked back after that, co-starring with Elvis Presley in Wild in the Country (1961) where she had an off-screen romance which caused her to walk out of her home at 16 years of age. She has starred with Steve McQueen in Soldier in the Rain (1963) and in all about 33 movies till 2001.
She has had three marriages as the UL and Venus are in 12th house from ārūḍha lagna in a very cursed state as ātmakāraka (root suffering) conjoining Sun and aspected by Rāhu, Saturn and Mars. Such a Venus in the 3rd house indicates one who shall have affairs with other married men and the afflictions indicate sexual exploitations, especially violence as mars is in 12th house (cannot speak about it). Mars in 12th house and Ketu in 8th house is very evil for marriage.
The Maṇi Pravāla rājayoga of Mercury gave her a successful career and fame due to lagneśa exaltation in ārūḍha, which again is perhaps what is the focus of rājayoga in 4th house handicapped by maraṇa sthāna position. Moon as significator of the fourth house and Mother is well placed in own sign thereby giving the 'Mother's push' that brought life's direction and success, but its conjunction with bādhakeśa Jupiter and Rāhu besides pāpa kartari between Sun and Saturn render it quite afflicted and blocked.
Maṇi Pravāla yoga of exalted benefic in 4th house require a clean Moon to give a balanced rājayoga.
Velupillai Prabhakaran born Nov 26, 1954 at Velvettithurai, Śrī Lanka at 4.26 pm
Chart 5: Velupillai Pirapākaraṇ (Prabhakaran)

Jupiter is exalted and alone in the 4th house rendering the Haṁsa Mahāpuruṣa Yoga which is also a Maṇi Pravāla Yoga. The exalted Saturn would generate a Śaśa Mahāpuruṣa which is stronger than the Mālavya Mahāpuruṣa of Venus. Comparing the strengths of Cancer and Libra, the Mahāpuruṣa yoga houses of Jupiter and Saturn, we find Saturn to be stronger as it is with two other planets. Thus, Śaśa Mahāpuruṣa yoga of Saturn becomes the dominating Mahāpuruṣa Yoga of the chart and the other Mahāpuruṣa yoga of Venus and Jupiter will have to bow out of the dominant theme in his life. Saturn also has digbala indicating the blessings of Varuṇa, giving him the power of the noose.
Comparing dispositors, the dispositor of Jupiter is the Moon which is also the significator of the 4th house and is debilitated in maraṇa kāraka sthāna in the 8th house. Venus the dispositor of Saturn is very well placed in the 7th house in mūlatrikoṇa. The Śaśa Mahāpuruṣa yoga dominates and pushes the Maṇi Pravāla Yoga out of reckoning.
Saturn, supported by a maraṇa kāraka Rāhu in the ninth house in debility forms a pāpa kartari yoga on the Sun and Moon in Scorpio. The conjunction of the luminaries for Aries lagna is a rājayoga in itself but this is delayed indefinitely and denied its final fruits by the pāpa kartari of the malefic planets. The first assassination of Jaffna mayor Alfred Duraiappah was done in 1975 (22nd year, Moon maturity - chandra aṣṭama) in Rāhu daśā Saturn antardaśā [Utpanna Vimśottari as Moon is in 8th house]. In the same daśā, on May 5, 1976, the TNT was renamed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Although he lived the life of uncrowned king of north Śrī Lanka, the defunct rājayoga of Jupiter (including Maṇi Pravāla), Venus or of the Sun and Moon never materialised. Like all leaders with Rāhu in the 9th house, who took to the violent path, he too died shortly after his only son Charles Anthony, in 2009 during kaṇṭaka śani transit in 10th house (Leo) from Janma Rāśi in trines to ārūḍha lagna.
Rule 12: It may be noted that the Maṇi Pravāla rājayoga of the 4th house is critically dependent on the strength of the Moon.
